Why I love Hong Kong and boxlife!
Dear All,
My blog is about giving you information and may be read as negative at times.
They are not meant to be, they are meant to be truthful, to the point and assist you in making the big move to expatdom.
I thought I'd write about my current experience here in Hong Kong and why I love it.
Finally after kissing a few toads I've actually found the place that I can call my home for quite a while.
Ilove my workplace, I have both friends and a life outside of work. I click with Hong Kong, I love my shoebox 1 bedroom apartment and have chosen the right area to live in. Getting the life outside of work was gained through going out and meeting people. Saying hello, what's the worse that can happen? They say hello and walk away or stay and chat a while! I've joined expat groups that let me meet others and create friends from those. Get out and make a life! You don't meet anyone sitting on your couch watching downloads of series that you could do anytime!
I ask questions to people who have lived here a while and go explore and have no agenda to it. I find things that I may need now or later, but I always find something. When in a new place make sure that you ask, explore and find resources that will help you with your day to day life.
It's something that has kept me sane in places that I have not clicked with!
The weather is fantastic here, I know many do not like the tropical heat, but I find it much easier to get cooler than to get warmer. I feel my world is lost when it 'plummets' to 19 degrees and have to put on Winter PJ's for the night. Believe me, I did not enjoy living in the snow or any minus degree weather. When it's 50 degrees you can still get in a car and go somewhere, in 3 foot snow you can't.
Honkers reminds me of my home town where its a mix of the old with the new. I can find the traditional with the modern and happily exist in both, it's one of the best parts of being an expat, to live and experience something else, something new.
Just some positive thoughts!
Cheers,
HB
