Holiday from a holiday.....
I've done the unthinkable as a traveller and have decided to not go on a holiday.
Instead I've come home for the entire Summer...Winter...Summer.
I've had a big year with a change in roles, developing a new programme at my school and quite frankly I'm stuffed. The thought of timetables, flights, rushing for trains and sleeping in different locations every few nights holds no appeal right now.
Does this come with age or a way of knowing I'm going to be overseas for a while and seeing new 'stuff' can wait? My answer to that is both I think. I remember when I travelled in my 20's that I had to see 25 countries in 25 days, go, go and more go, now I'm happy to see much less and make sure it's worthwhile.
I'm home with mother and family, catching up with dear friends and doing things that I've put on the list all year to do when I had my 'Summer Holiday'. Unfortunately this includes another fix up from a bad dentist in Hong Kong and paying a fortune for him to do it. Tomorrow I go see the dentist near my hometown to see what can be done about the tooth and with joy I pay more money to sort it out. If only my tooth knew I'd be home soon!
Other wonderful adventures will be to do my tax, sort out my superannuation and insurances and all those wonderful things I've put off for 3 years now. Adulting is exhausting.
So my holiday from holidays includes family, friends, being home and being still.
To holiday or not to holiday, first world problem!
For those on their Northern Hemisphere break, enjoy your travels or non travels. Just enjoy the break!
Cheers,
HB
